One of the best compliments that I have recently received was from one of the members of my hockey league. I play in a Tuesday night league with a group of people who have been playing together for 15 years or so. I’ve been playing with them for about 5 years now. It’s a great group, and I am very lucky to be a part of such a fun hockey night.
I am a goalie, always have been and always will be. I love it so much. After a game, one of the guys told me that I looked like Grant Fuhr out there. He is one of my hockey heroes.. as a black and native man, he broke through many walls as a hockey player. He was the first Black man to win the Stanley Cup and the first to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He played for some of my favorite teams, the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was an honor for sure to be compared to him.
