The goal of the Pine Lake Fishing Club is to create a safe space that is welcoming to all. Creating a campground and fishing club that also has a working farm aspect is the ultimate goal. When I think about this daily writing prompt, I immediately think about Kevin Costner’s character, Ray Kinsella, in Field of Dreams. During the movie, he keeps hearing this voice tell him “If you build it, he will come”. That is how I feel about this campground, if we can build it, people will come. It’s too great an opportunity to pass on. It is so needed today, and for our future generations.
Part of Field of Dreams that resonates with me is the idea throughout that Ray fears growing old without ever having done anything to achieve his dreams. He continues to believe in himself and continues to build the ball field. He faces foreclosure, mounting resistance from family and his community, but he perseveres. In the end, everything wraps up nicely and emotionally, and we see that the people are coming to witness the magic.
