Daily writing prompt
What’s a chapter of your life you’d title "The Hard Years" — and what got you through it?

The hard years…those are the ones I don’t wish to revisit. The ones I think of in passing and am thankful that I do not live there anymore. I moved to Portland, Oregon in my 20’s and left Denver and everything I knew to go there with my job that was affected by the dot-com bubble burst. I was out in Portland for almost a year and then moved back to Denver and started a few difficult years. Those were the darkest times. Thankful that I survived them and can now look back with learnings and appreciation for the struggles. I think that without struggle, you can’t truly appreciate the good times.

It’s hard at times to recognize when you are in the good times. I have a hard time shutting my mind off and just appreciating the moment that I am in and where I’m at. I feel like I’m always trying to juggle all of the plates to keep them spinning happily. Looking back on times, I can appreciate them as the good ole days, and I hope to work towards a place of appreciation for the present.

I think that as humans we should always strive to be better. Look for the paths of doing the next right thing, and be helpful and of service. I dream quite a bit about what a positive future looks like, but that can get me in trouble because I tend to put the cart in front of the horse often. Keep dreaming though…everyone deserves to be happy and to follow your dreams. Hope you all have a great weekend out there…and GO NORWAY!!
